Hi,

1) I would love to be able to overlay midi patterns coming from different midi clips on a track; the way it can be done on Ableton, Logic, etc. There are iOS apps that can manage that as well, like Atom Piano Roll. This is an image I borrowed from the Logic forum:

2) Instead of "Export current pattern" it would be neat to have the option to export all patterns at once as separate tracks; without having to do that one by one.

Thanks!

TL;DR This kinda turned into an introduction post as well as a feature request/wishlist. If it's too wordy or rambly, go ahead and skip down to the actual list. No offense taken lol

Just got Drambo after thinking about it for probably too long and I think I'm in love (and kicking myself for not pulling the trigger earlier).

Spent about a day getting my bearings - thankfully, all of my modular frustration was burned on VCV Rack a few years ago and while I managed to sidestep the inevitable fall down the bottomless pit of burying myself in ever bigger loans so I could build the physical rack of my dreams (and all of the hair-pulling voltage and ground noise issues that go with it lol), the awe over all of the insane possibilities that modular offers stuck with me.

The first contraption I've decided to build felt a bit lofty, but I'm making decent progress on it (PatchStorage upload hopefully coming soon), but it's also been a minor breeding ground for "man, I wish I could do X or Y."

Luckily, a lot of it seems fairly minor (or, I'd assume as much, not having any visibility into the source code, and all). I also realize that BeepStreet is either a one man team, or at the very least a really small team, and without knowing what the backlog looks like or what's on the menu for upcoming features, I'm coming into this post with hopeful, but realistic, optimism and no expectations that I'm owed anything. It's really just one "real" ask followed by a couple of super minor ones.

My wishlist, as of now:

I love the idea of building highly customized racks and, with that, highly customized control surfaces and panels to go with them. In a perfect world, Drambo would have a bunch of empty, different sized panels (or better, a single resizable one) and offer a grid system to position control elements like knobs and sliders, but that feels like it'd be a hell of an undertaking/overhaul (unless...? lol) and what's there now is pretty useful already.

The ACTUAL ask: One issue I ran into is that I can't seem to hide/unhide single-tap UI elements. For example, the waveform preview/loader in the Sampler modules, or dropdowns like the ones also found in the Sampler modules (to select Launch, Mode, etc) or the Shaper (to select distortion type). The ability to manage visibility of these elements would lend itself really nicely to building tightly focused custom patches/racks where control/interaction is intended to happen through the controls that the patch creator exposes and it would help keep things less cluttered in Compact mode.

I wish we had a bit more space for text labels before they get truncated, where the middle gets replaced with ellipses. Maybe an allowance for two lines, where feasible?

Minor bug, but def not a showstopper: I noticed if you use an emoji in a text label, the bottom half of the label gets cut off.

Just a nice-to-have if it's feasible and there's time for it eventually: the ability to slap a custom skin on a panel in the form of a PNG or a JPEG or whatever. It'd be fun to add a personal touch, or play around with branding or self-promotion, for people creating and sharing patches.

That's either it for now or I'm drawing blanks. So far, none of the above has had any effect on my growing obsession with Drambo. Looking forward to using it a lot more and the near and long term.

EDITS (as my I-Wish-I-Coulds continue to catch back up to me):

As these things tend to go, I submitted my post, went to go grab a drink, and another one came to me:

It would be pretty nice if the waveform screen in the samplers (the full size one that comes up when you hit preview) showed how long your sample is in samples, or ms, or time divisions based on your current tempo or even better, if it was configurable to show any of the above (or other units or measurement I may not be thinking of).

Another one surfaced:

The ability to set custom default knob positions, per module instance, would be an absolute godsend. Example: say I'm running 4 audio outputs into a mixer and I want to hear just one of the signals from the mixer for a moment - or I want one to stand out a little more while I adjust the chain. Right now, I quiet or "mute" the others by cranking the volume in the mixer to 0. If I want it back at 0.75 (the default for a freshly added knob), I have to type that in... And that's if I want it at 0.75 which is easy to remember. If I had each knob at a specific position, the problem becomes more difficult to manage. If the double tap/context menu for the knobs had a "set default" option, managing stuff like this would be a ton easier... And expanding that out to all control elements would be even better.

I've seen this brought up here and there but I wanted add my voice to the choir in support of this! I'd love to be able to use midi controllers with led encoders to toggle between different patches with the similar parameters mapped and see the values for that particular instance indicated on the controller.

This would also be really great to use if/when the sequencer parameters can be mapped. I'm imagining, for example, selecting a step on a grid and seeing the values for the parameters on that particular step shown by the LED encoders. This would really help with giving a performative, hands-on feeling to sequencing elektron style.

I don't know how this would play out with different controllers but I've seen talk about the BCR32, the MIDI Fighter Twister, etc. It would be a dream to make a controller from Yaeltex with a bunch of the LED encoders and use that as a control surface for Drambo.

Speaking of hands on MIDI control, I also recently saw this and hey, its fun to dream. https://youtu.be/taQFeYINIXE

This is the follow-up for recent Drumkit discussion, I have a feeling that this or similar functionality was already requested, but encouraged by @giku i will try to explain my idea. I use drambo to jam quite often, and what I'm really missing is a quick option to record a full sequence from a track and bounce it to sample, either to store it for later or sequence it from a sampler and free up some tracks. I think the functionality could probably be implemented within a flexi sampler module and would pave the way for some more advanced looping, creating octa-track-ish kind of fader mixer between input track and sample, being able to program another sequence on a track live and probably some more really cool use cases in live and studio setups. I can't make pretty mockups like some folks here, so I will try to explain it.

In flexi sampler's module rec window, there could be a "Sequence" option within a Sync box.

When you pick an input for a track and press record, it records the whole sequence currently playing on a track being an input from first to last step, while drambo is playing.

Optional: there could be additional parameter popping when sequence is being chosen - loop length: default (inherits the track sequence length), 1 bar, 2 bars, 4 bars, 8 bars etc.

I know this is somewhat achievable by parameter locks, but it's a bit messy and confusing, so this would be the most optimal and elegant solution to quickly resample from tracks, without introducing another module. To be honest, I'd love anything that makes it easy and quick no matter the interface or module really.

Cheers!

@giku does a great job, and I'm very grateful for that. I have a few ideas and suggestions; perhaps my thoughts will be useful in development.

1. A sequence recording button in the Euclidean sequencer. I understand that you can install a separate sequencer module and record there later, but recording directly would be much more convenient.

2. The ability to switch synth presets, similar to how it's organized in Loopy Pro.

3. A compact mode for hidden potentiometers. This works great on built-in modules; I'd like to have the same feature in AUv3 applications.

4. Sample trimming. I can trim the edges of a sample, but I can't trim a portion.

5. Central slider mode. Alternatively, you could toggle this mode in the settings.

6. Graphic equalizer. Sometimes it's possible to see the frequency spectrum and adjust it. I use the Pro Q3 for these purposes, but I think the built-in module will require fewer resources than the Q3. Also, third-party plugins are periodically reset. This doesn't happen with the built-in ones.

7. More sand-return channels. At least two more.

8. The ability to switch layers using buttons on the controller. Switching only works with the slider or potentiometer. In some scenarios, using buttons is more convenient.

9. MIDI controller feedback on the slider, layer, and preset modules.

10. More granular modules (delay, reverb). This could be implemented as an additional paid add-on. I'm ready to buy it.

11. Radio mode in the button module

First wish/idea:

Instead of 1 general button to show/hide all overlays, make specific buttons. Currently Drambo shows all overlays at once, making it very slow to find the right one in a project with multiple AUs. And if we could map the show/hide each AU overlay to a midi controller this would speed up the process even more.

Second wish/idea:

An overlay window for Drambo instrument racks. Especially with more complex instruments it would be amazing to build / design an overlay that isn’t limited to 1 horizontal strip. Bonus points if the macros (knobs or morphs) show actual values like filter frequency.

I would appreciate a way to remove the default MIDI mapping profiles for good to keep the list clean. Maybe only generate these profiles on installation and have a button in the settings to restore the default profiles manually.

My proposal is as follows:

It's based on Flexi Sampler, and behaves like it in all respects except for what I'm adding next.

In terms of UI, two new elements are added to the Recording panel: an "Overdub" button and a "Feedback".

When Overdub is disabled, the module works exactly as Flexi Sampler.

When Overdub is enabled and recording is active (by tapping either Rec button), the module works at first exactly as Flexi Sampler (including possibly being triggered for playback)

When Overdub is enabled and recording has been disabled (meaning the buffer is already populated), the module overdubs the incoming signal onto the buffer content. This is indicated by the recoding (red) playhead looping over the buffer.

If feedback is at less than 100%, then the volume of the buffer is reduced accordingly when the recording playhead travels across it.

Disabling Overdub stops the recording playhead and prevents the buffer from being modified any longer.

Enabling and disabling Overdub respects the existing Sync recording options.

All playback functionality works exactly as it does with Flexi Sampler, including polyphony.

Other options I'm leaving out that could be interesting but add complexity:

Predefine the length of the buffer ahead of time. It can be work around by having silent files that can be loaded.

Variable recording speed.

Drambo makes a great groovebox and sequencer, and the support for external controllers like the Launchpads is superb. It would be great to have the same MIDI mapping features the standalone version provides in the plug-in versions as well. This would mean access to both hardware and project MIDI profiles.

Another app called "Prism" has recently introduced an additional virtual MIDI output port that is used to route programming and feedback messages to external controllers. This allows to use the app with full Launchpad support inside hosts like AUM or LoopyPro. It would be great if it would be possible to do the same with Drambo as a plugin.

The current workaround if you need additional returns is to use regular tracks and put an audio out module on the send track to that module. The downside is that this bypasses the track mutes or track levels, so you can’t do any live dubbing like with the current return A and B.
