Could use some advice on a beatslicer
I’m putting together a rack to trigger a sliced loop in a flexi, with as much hands=on control as I can get into it. It’s already doing some really nice things, but I’m running into a couple of walls, too.
Right now I’m working only with the first 8 slices of a loop, ideally cut into 8th notes. You can have longer sequences with those 8 slices, probably I’ll make a 16 step version, once everything works the way I like, although with all the options to manipulate the sequence, maybe 8 is plenty.
The heart of it is a cv sequencer that’s set to 8 steps that evenly rise from 0 to 1. That signal is fed into 8 graphic shapers, each set to 0 all the way except for one eighth which is up to one, so when you let sequencer run, you get a gate for each of the steps. Those gates trigger note generators, that I’ve set to the notes triggering the first eight slices of a flexi. All note generators run into a midi mixer.
To clock the sequencer, I put a layers switch in and connected that to the gate input on the sequencer. On the first layer, I just copied the sequencer, I’ve gotten already, for a forward sequence, on other layers freely edited sequencers, differently clocked Random LFOs, or a Saw LFO for polyrhythm in synced mode and up to audio rate chaos in free mode. It’s pretty fun already to switch those clocksources with p=locks. The random LFOs are great for fills.
The first problem I have is if the same note is supposed to be triggered twice in a row, it doesn’t work. I guess there is a note-off message missing. Any advice, on how I can make that happen?
I also put a (cv) retrigger module triggered an controlled by a xy=Pad in there that is kind of fun. What I would still like to have is a way to trigger playback from a specific step onwards, as long, as I hold a button or XY=Pad, and skips back to the position of the clock set in the layers switch. The closest I got to this is with an xy-pad connected to a shift time module. With spring on and modulation depth to -.25, I can skip back up to a beat, but I can’t just pick any of the slices, which would be cool. I would love some input on that.

Quick hint: Have you seen the Gate+velocity sequencer?
There's technically no difference between Cv and velocity but you get gate triggers for free 😊
@rs2000 Thanks, yes that might streamline things a bit... :) I don't have all the functionality back I had before, but triggering the same slice twice in a row isn't a problem anymore.
To trigger 16 slices I set the snap in the sequencer to 24 and multiplied the output by .25 to get the pitch signal. That's workable for the sequencer, but if I want to use an lfo as the pitch signal it would hit all 24 notes if multiplied by .25. Can that be scaled, so the LFO just hits 16 notes, too, and I can set the snap in the sequencer to 16 instead of 24? I've tried, but couldn't get the seqito run properly on a rising saw, there always were skips and double triggers.

@rs2000 thanks, I figured out, how to scale. I just tried with the amount knob on the LFO and .67 did it. Now that I think of it, the math behind it isn't rocket science either: I want only 16 out of 24, so 2 thirds. Live and learn :) For now I have a lot to try out.
