macOS Drambo standalone multichannel audio outputs with Blackhole?
Hi everyone,
I'm the proud new owner of a Macbook Air with an M chip that means I can run Drambo on a computer! Having loads of fun already. I've found my best method of getting audio in to Ableton from the huge set that I've made for live performance is to reroute audio via Blackhole (like soundflower for those that remember) but what I'd really like is for the multi channel versions to work - I can only see an output for USB1+2 in drambo. anyone know if this is possible?

ALSO just found out, and leaving here as a warning to future users...
Turns out deleting the Drambo app on macOS also deletes the Drambo folder in Documents. as far as I can tell it's impossible to recover, doesn't go to the bin. I've not made much progress moving data from my phone so i'll be ok but I'm kinda shocked tbh, if I'd made more progress I would be devastated....
It's the same as on iOS, at least for apps you've installed from the Appstore.
You get multiple outputs at least if you use Drambo as a plugin in Ableton
Got it, still learning the new os.
Any idea re multichannel outputs in the standalone Drambo app? I’d love to use blackhole 16ch to record multichannel out of the standalone app if it’s possible
Haven’t tried that, I don’t have blackhole or multiple outputs set up on my machine. I find using the plugin very handy, that way the Drambo project gets saved inside the Ableton project.
@dalle agreed but I've been using drambo on my phone up til now and have made a complex project for live performance with it; putting it into ableton breaks that cos I need to reassign midi stuff; if it could work with blackhole which I'm sure it can with some tweaks from the main make @giku it would be fantastic.
I have noticed that if I plug in a multichannel usb audio device then the usb 3+4 channels etc become available.
also testing this way, I notice if use the extra channels in Blackhole, then they work correctly;
so the issue seems to be that Drambo cannot "see" the extra channels of the virtual audio device
@giku is there any way you could make these channels visible to Drambo? Thank you!
+1 on input channel selection from aggregate audio from Audio MIDI set up. Bitwig shows the extra channels from Blackhole as well does Ableton.
Not to say that wouldn't be nice, but Just for context ... Blackhole and Ableton are native MacOS apps. Drambo is just an iOS/iPadOS app that runs on Apple Silicon Macs "for free" because of Apple making that possible. It's not written for or, I don't think, specially modified to work with MacOS. It may not be a simple thing to modify the way Drambo works with MacOS at that level because it's really the iOS/iPadOS app that has to be modified.
@number37 yeah but it might be really easy - considering that the ipad app running on macos is "spoofed" into working on multiple channels on the virtual audio device as long as there is another multichannel usb device available to use (therefore enabling the further channels to be visible to drambo) it might be as simple as some checkbox or code to say to drambo look for virtual devices, or maybe we can be told its a blackhole limitation in which case we go bribe Devin Roth at existential audio. @giku let us know also if you're open to bribes ;)
@giku I’m not sure if you’ve clarified this yet or not, but are there any plans to bring AU or VST3 support to Drambo on macOS?
I’d love for to program Pigments and Serum 2 natively in Drambo on macOS.
is this even possible without a ton of work on your part?
Thanks in advance for the answer.
cheers!
Yes, Drambo needs a dedicated OsX version I hope I manage to deal with this this year. I can't promise VST but AU should work.
Beautiful.
many thanks.
Wow, AUv2 would be great already! 😃
That would be awesome! Keep us updated if you can. I am waiting to jump in on this ecosystem on a Mac.
Would love to see a standalone Mac OS version of Drambo, is it going to get a release this year? @giku
I hope so :) That's the plan.
Amazing 😀🤘
