Suggestions and improvement ideas

@giku does a great job, and I'm very grateful for that. I have a few ideas and suggestions; perhaps my thoughts will be useful in development.

1. A sequence recording button in the Euclidean sequencer. I understand that you can install a separate sequencer module and record there later, but recording directly would be much more convenient.

2. The ability to switch synth presets, similar to how it's organized in Loopy Pro.

3. A compact mode for hidden potentiometers. This works great on built-in modules; I'd like to have the same feature in AUv3 applications.

4. Sample trimming. I can trim the edges of a sample, but I can't trim a portion.

5. Central slider mode. Alternatively, you could toggle this mode in the settings.

6. Graphic equalizer. Sometimes it's possible to see the frequency spectrum and adjust it. I use the Pro Q3 for these purposes, but I think the built-in module will require fewer resources than the Q3. Also, third-party plugins are periodically reset. This doesn't happen with the built-in ones.

7. More sand-return channels. At least two more.

8. The ability to switch layers using buttons on the controller. Switching only works with the slider or potentiometer. In some scenarios, using buttons is more convenient.

9. MIDI controller feedback on the slider, layer, and preset modules.

10. More granular modules (delay, reverb). This could be implemented as an additional paid add-on. I'm ready to buy it.

11. Radio mode in the button module

  • Great List!

My number 1 suggestion would be a paid mixing essentials add on featuring a visual parametric eq, a glue style compressor, an OTT style compressor, and previously I would have said limiter, but that has already been generously gifted to us by @giku!

I used to feel that way about the reverbs, until i realized the FDN module (Not the FDN Reverb) essentially gives you access to the guts of a reverb algo to tweak however you want. I recommend playing with it, I’ve made so many wonderful reverbs with it especially with some modulation of its parameters. It’s very sensitive to input gain though, I recommend feeding it a quiet signal and boosting it back up on the other side.

Again Giku thanks for all the work you’ve put into this wonderful program! I always look forward to what’s next.

  • I think you can make OTT style Compressor using layers crossover module and putting compressors into it.

  • You can make something similar, but OTT style compression isn’t just downward compression. It’s also an expander/upward compressor. You basically squash the dynamic range from both sides into a very narrow decibel band.

You could make a more direct OTT style compressor if something like phaseplant’s or bitwig’s dynamics processor was added which allows for upward and downward compression in one device. I personally more of a fan of a dedicated multiband compressor with upwards and downwards ability though. I find the results usually sound a little better, but I would also be very happy if we were given a dynamics processor capable of upward and downward compression in one device. It would be more Drambo to do it that way anyhow as it’s more modular.

    I'd surely welcome

8: The ability to switch layers using buttons on the controller, including feedback

10: Granular synthesis and processing modules

11: Radio mode in the button module (!!)

  • 8: it is doable with Buttons module + Counter module + cv sequencer. Use 2 counters and put a Substract module to scroll up/down cv sequencer.

  • Another function I'd like to change on a MIDI controller is the pattern length.

Alternatively, this could be done by holding the last step and pressing the first. For example, I need a length of 8 steps. I press step 8 on the sequencer, then the first. This way, it shouldn't interfere with changing the note length.

I don't know how feasible this is, but I often need it...

  • You're in luck, because that's already possible 😉

    1. Map one of your MIDI controller's buttons to the 'Select/Operations' button - the rectangle left of the 'Undo' button.
    2. I assume you already have the sequencer steps mapped to your MIDI controller's buttons.
    3. Map one sequence page to a button on your MIDI controller.
    4. Hold down the Select button - don't release it.
    5. While holding down the Select button, double press/tap the button of the step you want to be the last step in the sequence.
    6. Now release the Select button. The number of steps in the sequencer should've changed. In my case it changes to a multiple of four but when I tap on the sequence page (the window with one or more sequence pages below the sequencer), the steps in the sequencer change to the correct number (if it wasn't a multiple of 4 already) - I presume this behaviour is a bug and tapping on the sequencer page shouldn't be needed to show the correct number of steps. Since you mapped at least 1 Sequencer page to a button on your controller, press it, so the correct number of steps shows.

This actually works to extend the sequence length too.

  • Damn it, it works! God bless this forum and its users!!!

The only thing is, to align the pattern, you have to press the first pattern button. But that's a minor detail...)

  • 👍

By the way, tapping this ‘Help’ button and then tapping the ‘Select’ button is where I learned about this.

  • Apparently you need to press the question mark more often😆

  • Would be neat if the 'show/hide AUv3'' next to show/hide scene+morph button was also midi-mapable.

  • Holy shit! I’d no idea the FDN module existed until I just read this. Why? Because it’s not in the tagged FX section. I’ve highlighted this several times before, @giku, so I’m going to go through everything and cross reference the two module sections (non-tagged and tagged) to see if anything else is still missing from the tagged section. I’ll pm you with whatever I find. Cheers.

  • A simple way to share stuff between users -- built into Drambo.

For example, "I made this instrument. Check it out" and have a small video of the instrument. Then can install it and maybe users could have notes on how to use.

Also could include "demos", "setups with midimap" for specific devices (like my Novation Launch Control XL 2), etc.

We shouldn't be reinventing the wheel, we should be sharing out builds!! ☮️♥️😁

@REkzkaRZ - You mean like the 705 Drambo patches already uploaded to patchstorage.com? 😉

  • @giku, I’ve gone through the non tagged and tagged module sections, cross referencing them for differences and omissions in the tagged category as promised. I’ve just sent you a pm with an attached PDF of the things I found. If you don’t get it, please post here to let me know and I’ll try sending it again. Cheers.

I’ve already done this for all the modules in Drambo up to 2.48 - I can send you the documents if you haven’t already. Took a while and if I can save anyone else the time it took then it’s a win for me.

Disregard I just saw your next comment where you already did it.

  • What a shame - nine times out of ten I would have put off doing it until the weekend but this one time I did it straight away! Thanks though @offbrands, appreciate it.

  • It would be great if the section panel could be hidden using a MIDI controller. This would allow you to hide unnecessary blocks with a single click of the controller.

  • I like the idea. Section module header mapping could trigger folding indeed, because muting the module makes no sense anyway.

  • The crossfader scene buttons have two different press modes: one is a hold, the other is a power-on. They work the same way. What if the power-on mode were set to switch tracks, not morph scenes? This would allow you to adjust various parameters on different tracks, and then use the crossfader to roll them back, like you can do in Digitakt and other Electron boxes.

I'd also like more send channels, at least two more.

  • Hi. It would make my life much easier if there was a function in drambo that would delete all the contents of the sequencer / patterns at once. In my case, I always start a new song with tracks where I have complicated external midi and audio mappings configured and the only option is to delete line by line, which is tedious because I usually create 30-40 of them. And I also discovered a bug where I want to create automation and accidentally move a controller that is mapped to another track, so it can no longer be removed from the clip. Automation should be limited to creating it only from elements that are relevant to the track I am doing it on. Now it accepts any input when I press + in the automation.

  • If you save your session with all routings and without any sequencer data you can use it as a preset.

  • thank you. I also thought this solution would solve the problem, but I'm still adjusting track settings and "improving" the overall sound, and if I want to start a new file with these settings, I have no choice but to delete line by line. It would be ideal if you could mark lines and perform basic functions such as duplicate, move, and delete from several at once.
