My Patches

Hey everyone,

I've got a couple of patches on patchstorage. So far I only "promoted" them on the loopy pro forum, because that's where it all started for me.

Most of them are midi racks of some sort, sequencers for drums and melodic ones, arps, chord generators, but also a loop slicer, drone synth and a playable feedback thing. On top I've got 10+ patches, that are basically ready for release, I 'll put out one by one in the not too distant future.

Going forward, I'll post new patches here, too. What's already there, you can find here:

Let me know, if you find something you like and don't hesitate if you have a question or maybe an idea, that would make something more whatever. I enjoy talking about it:)

  • Thank you! ❤️

  • And here's the newest one, a generative drum sequencer with only a handful of controls, that all do very apparent things (to the ears) and give you lots of ways to shape the ouput.

    Find it here:

  • My absolute pleasure, and thank you for all the tips on the way!

  • As I mentioned over on LPF, cool patches as usual!

  • @Intrepolicious Thanks again :)

I updated a chord rack, I uploaded anwhile ago, it got way more useful.

I found a workaround to get the meta randomiser to save it’s state (sort of).

Here’s a new midi generator I made. It spits out soundtrackish stingers if you wiggle its pads.

  • Nice! Who doesn’t need Soundtrackish stingers?

  • Thanks! I didn't know, I need them, but now that I got them, they're indispensable in so many situations, although some people seem to get annoyed by me soundtracking their lives;)

A quick jam I did with a couple of drum machine samples, Mariana, J6 and a couple of my midi patches. The melodic sequencer on the bass and lead, I’ll probably upload soon.

I don't know how to delete that accidentally posted picture...

  • @tyslothrop1 On iOS: Add text above and below the image, select these, then delete.

  • @rs2000 thanks, good to know, if it happens again (:

This is a midi FX-rack, that filters out notes out of a midi stream, you can targets notes to eliminate by their position in a sequence, their pitch (note independently of octave in the range from C1 to B6) or their Velocity. On top of that there’s a probabilistic burst generator with control over how long each burst lasts.

In the second half of the video I teaser another midi fx of mine, that gives the output some interesting grooves. Stay tuned.

  • Thanks @Intrepolicious :)

I'm a bit blown away, that Gavinski, who inspired me to make this on the LPF, did a walkthrough on it:

  • Oh wow! High honors! Keep up the amazing work.

  • The first meme, made for me, and a benevolent one... Don't know, if I can handle the fame ;)

    Thanks @rs2000

  • Does your drum machine sound like there's a stick in its socket? Maybe slip it some digital booze.

  • in a recent thread @phc wished for an option to delete notes by recording. This gave me a simple idea, that would have been OT in that thread, so I put it here:

It’s not quite erasing with a control while recording, but goes in that direction. You can mute notes, by playing B1 when a note-on happens and you can record that. And with the new additive step Input mode, you can easily delete the note mutes by taking B1 (or whatever you change it to) off the steps you want to reactivate:).

  • I'm working on a system of flexible drum sequencers that I can feed to any drum plugin for a while now. It consists of 4 blocks of exchangeable midi racks:

    1. sequencers that generate a pattern that just run mostly fixed patterns. I have about 10 (and counting) racks that do that in various ways.

    2. modifiers that can add swing or more complex and/or wonky grooves in variable degrees.

    3. racks that can add fills in hands-on or preprogrammed ways. If you put them before the groove rack, the fills can follow the groove, too, but I mostly prefer if they don't.

    4. racks with mappings for different drum machines. As different drum machines have different numbers of drums and I still wanted to keep the sequencers universal, so I could just exchange the drum machine and still have a working beat going, I decided to limit triggers to 8 drums at a time. However the rack lets you switch between 3 sets of 8 triggers, so you could for example switch between sidestick and snare or hat and ride in different parts of a song. And there is a fourth option to randomly assign different sounds to the triggers (you can also leave kick and snare in place and just randomize the other six triggers). Drum machines with fixed mappings (no matter the preset a given key triggers the same kind of drum, like in Tekno or VADrum2), I labelled, so it's easy to change a mapping. For battalion, I just put numbers as labels. And for Oneshot I took a kit I like as an example and some of the labels will be correct with most presets. With most plugins, you won't hit empty slots.

I think, I'll upload some example videos, soon. Anyone interested?

  • Sure! Lay it on us!

  • Thanks, coming up soon :)

  • Nice one @tyslothrop1

Have you ever considered something along the lines of the old Sector by Kymatica? Perhaps a midi version?

  • edited February 28

    Thanks :)

I don't own Sector, so I don't know all the features, I guess the most defining feature is the UI with the mesmerising shapes. Apart from that there is manually sequenced or random playback of slices, if I'm not mistaken.

The UI, I wouldn't know how to approximate... Sequenced or random playback of slices, I've dabbled with. I have a slicer, that's basically finished, that has both.

What are the features you are looking for and what would you want a midi version to do?

I’ve played with it extensively in the past and got about 70% sense of it but this was like around 10 years ago.

What I’m really after is a similar sonic result. A type of glitch effect that uses repeat, reverse and filters, among others applied to steps.

The more I think of it the more I see that it is more of an audio rather than midi effect.

I think my patch Beat Moosh kinda scratches the surface, drawing ideas from Effectrix except I’d need to put more buffer effects in there although I wouldn’t quite know how to plumb in probability. Audio Damage’s Replicant uses similar ideas

In fact another important part of Sector is the probability of each step playing as well as the chance of it jumping between steps. It’s a work of art and certainly something that took Jonathan a while to create and improve.

Sorry, I’m not being very helpful here but I’m curious about your slicer. I’m guessing it’s not on patch storage yet?

  • The sequencer (or sequencer module) allow for conditional p-locks and step jumps I think? When you enter the component tab. But I agree it can be a bit of a hassle to set up compared to Sector

  • @supadom If I get you right, you'd like an effect, that probabilistically plays one of several effects, or none.

You could use a layer switch (layer one empty, then as many layers with effects, as you please) and modulate the index with an LFO set to 0 Hz, unipolar and S&H. Then connect the LFO gate input to whatever gate signal should trigger an effect or not (maybe the gate that also triggers the slices).

If you want to control the probability, you could send the LFO through a graphic shaper set to unipolar. If you have the curve set to 0 for the first horizontal half and then raise to 1 on the right side, you have roundabout a 50 percent probability for FX (depending on how many layers you use). If you curve the rising side, you can change the probability of individual layers (exponential means higher probability for the lower layers, logarithmic for th higher ones).

  • The slicer is not on patchstorage, yet... eventually.

The trickier part is giving a slice several fixed options for Which slice can follow (Random is easy). I might have an idea, but it takes many utility modules and won't be nearly as nice to handle as sector. I might give it a try(:.
