Is there a way to nudge a whole sequence forwards in time?

Hi,Is there a way to nudge a whole sequence forwards in time?

I've figured out I can use the midi delay to nudge a sequence backwards BUT not how to nudge a while sequence forwards?

Any ideas greatly received!

  • If you use the midi sequence module, yes. But this removes clips and patterns and all the other goodness of the core sequencer

i think this is an area of improvement - both to drive the whole sequence forward, as well as individual steps - positive and negative offset. For both micro timing precision and groove as well as cool performance stuff.

  • Hi. I'll look into the midi sequence module and explore, thanks!

You can offset backward in the main seq but not back, would be great as a feature , to work your groove

You could try using the transport module instead and temporarily push tempo up or down.

At least that's how I always wanted nudging to work, to sync sequences on different machines on the fly.

Probably not what you're after, but If you select all the steps then you have the nudge right and left buttons available for nudging one step at a time. (Tap the ▶ from the popup menu to get to the nudge controls.)

  • Are y'all not talking about this shift/transpose tool? Because that's the first thing that came to mind when I read the OP, but I see all the replies are everything but the shift/transpose tool.

  • Hi. Tried this tool but it wasn't quite the micro timing shift I was looking for. It felt like bigger step jumps in time position to my ears

  • Please tell us more about what exactly you're looking for.

By adjusting the "up" and "down" knobs, you can change the timing shift to much smaller amounts, whatever you like.

  • A while ago I made a little utility rack called time jumper, but as far as I can tell you can’t modify the main clock, you can just modify a custom one, and you have to use the in rack midi sequencer module instead of the track sequencer. At least as far as I can tell

You could try using the Shift time module.

  • I’m waiting for this too. Negative offset in the step sequencer. It’s been left for so long so maybe they are not going to make an improvement though.

  • Negative offset in the core sequencer would be huge

  • A UI request, in the steps mode, it would be very useful if there was some sort of visual grid for offset.

  • If you guys want a negative offset on step conditions that probably won’t happen as it might be technically near impossible and was asked for years ago

might as well ask for groove templates to add to the immense list of wish list items 😅

  • But nudge a sequence in time there’s a way: select all notes in piano roll, disable quantize, and be very precise with your fingers. Also remember to save a version of your project first, before you try, cause undo can be finicky

  • Put a midi delay of the same length in every track. Now reduce it in the track you want to nudge forward.
