I just saw Otoo got a big midi update! I have a couple questions. When Otoo is hosted inside another AUv3 host like AUM, can we live record notes into its sequencer using an external midi keyboard or other AUv3 midi processor?
There’s your answer. I personally don’t think it makes much sense, the purpose was to use otoo’s sequencer with external apps or synths. If you want to record midi then just bypass otoo entirely. Or did you want midi recording to decide which lane to place the notes?
I appreciate you taking the time to reply. I'm not really sure what you mean by "if you want to record midi then just bypass otoo entirely". Like, yeah I could use a different sequencer. But I haven't found one that I really gel with yet. I'm allergic to piano rolls (especially touch based). So I'm always on the hunt for interesting sequencers.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but even before the midi update, Otoo had a "live record" mode (see HaQ's video at about 2:15). I would much rather use a real keyboard than an on-screen keyboard for this.
And the reason I asked about midi processors is because I like to route my Keystep's midi thru Scaler3's "keylock" mode (which transposes my crappy playing into whatever scale I choose) before hitting the sequencer. It's easy to route midi like this with AUM and LoopyPro. I do this with other sequencers like Helium, Loopy's built-in, and even external sequencers like the MPC's. I was hoping, now that Otto can be "just" a midi sequencer inside another host, I could use it this way too.
