Clap Duett

Hey there,

just came up with this. Sounds pretty convincing to my ears

two „people“ clapping, with two independent sequencer modules to vary the rhythms. Make sure to play with the per step velocity as well :)

  • the granular extension might be interesting to make your clapping more realistic, just a suggestion, not a criticism

    I like it a lot, my first instinct would be to make it a buleria rhythm in 12/8 like flamenco (I can help with that if you want)

    I mean, wtf? 1 2, 1 2 3, 4 5 6, 7 8 9 10 to count to 12? But it works musically 🤷‍♂️

    im not familiar with flamenco patterns, but I have a weak spot for all the traditional polyrhythmic stuff. I thought about creating a library of samba patterns for the drambo sequencer that I can access on the fly, I guess some flamenco would complement that nicely.

    my conga patches fell short and I’d have to search for them as it was like 2 or 3 years ago, but I feel the urge to give it another go

  • That’s quite nice. The thing with the conga is exactly the slap, and it’s probably the hardest physical model to get credible. I’m going to try making your patch pitch responsive, but you have some good ideas in there, keep’em coming 👍

    I play all those instruments so it’s impossible to fool me. And I’ve also been on that quest for decades, to no avail

    but that may be my shortcomings

  • And you might want to check the BBD as a complement to the FDN

  • The cuica would be an interesting challenge indeed, because the membrane acts more as a „bad“ broadband resonator than as a sound source itself.. for actually playing it, something like this might work:

    When you move the slider up or down, the volume and pitch of the oscillator goes up. You’d rather want to use a hardware fader ofc but that seems like a good way of interfacing with the physical model

    as for the BBD resonator, it sounds fantastic but it’s built around a single delay line, so it’s not as well suited for inharmonic resonances as the FDN is.. one a side note, I had the fortune to work with the guys from chair audio last year, who developed the analog waveguide eurorack module, based on a reverb concept from 1971.. This might also be something worth investigating as a drambo module @giku, since you already have the analog modeled bbd resonator. It’s basically two delay lines with independent pitch settings, one represents the X axis and the other one the Y axis, and the signal gets rotated between them, mathematically similar to IQ demodulation in a frequency shifter/single sideband separation, but with a rotation coefficient (Xin = Xout*cos(angle) -Yout*sin(angle) and Yin = Xout*sin(angle) + Yout*cos(angle))

    i have one of these eurorack modules here and it produces sounds like nothing else.

    I just made a drambo implementation of that concept, it is limited by the 10ms feedback minimum:

    edit: I think I made a mistake with the routing somewhere, only the X input works properly
