Xbox controller and drambo
Can I use an xbox controller to control anything in drambo? I can pair it without problems and use it with retroarch for instance, but I can’t seem to find a way to have it seen inside drambo. I believe it is possible as I’ve seen @rs2000 mention doing it with another game controller. Is there a secret switch I need to toggle or is it not supported at all?

I think the controller needs a mode where it sends keyboard strokes instead of what it usually sends.
On pc there are programs that converts controller data into keyboard strokes (and mouse movements), that you can configure yourself. Would be cool to have an app for iOS to do that. For Android, I think that would be an easy one for LLMs. I don't know how to do it for iOS and at least postponed trying, because I think I would need a Mac to do it.
Thanks for the insight, but I don’t think there’s anything I can do there, then, can I? Regarding using it with drambo, I mean. There’s no mode I can configure or anything else I’m aware
to be honest I bought a 2nd hand controller to play retro games and it’s great for that. Was just thinking what if?
you have for example this: https://apps.apple.com/de/app/musikraken/id1538781007?l=en-GB
but the thing is, it has to be in the foreground to have focus.
i wish drambo would support gamepad input natively
I'll check that, thanks, although being in foreground defeats my purpose
This thread also offers some ideas

Guess I’ll have to buy touchosc?
Or maybe I’ll just use my BT keyboard… that I know that works
But wouldn’t it be great to be able to use the thumb sticks as two xy-pads in drambo and the abxy buttons as triggers?
while I’m dreaming, the d-pad to navigate tracks or clips
with touchosc it's the same. has to be in the foreground.
bt keyboard is fine i think. if you don't need the analog sticks and triggers...
I don’t need them, but I’d like them 😅
I guess this would be one afternoon’s worth of @giku ’s time, but of course there are other more important priorities
and I’m known for making crazy posts on this forum (at least I like to think so)
Yes it's on the list, waiting and I need to bring it back.
Haha, you know it, doom has to be ported to drambo to complete it
It's gonna use game controller api. I hope it supports xbos controller.
why do you think gamepad support is less important than anything?
let's make it an "official" wish now!
that was too quick for me:)
so no more need to make gamecontroller support an "official" wish? @giku
Meanwhile… (can’t even call this version zero)
Imagine a spherical doom…
ah, wow! now we know what you're after:)
surely needs gamepad support. and a optional gamepad overlay wouldn't too bad as well
I really wish so myself, but it probably does as it’s always recommended as the most goto compatible controller for ios
And apple wouldn’t throw away microsoft money 😀
Since I discovered that guitar amp fx loop return accepts audio interface line level, Drambo & friends has become a guitar fx box. Strapping midi controllers to my guitar was just the obvious next step, such as 8bitdo bluetooth game controller in keyboard mode that D supports already, and it is fuuuuun! :D
Playing music! 🎮🕹️👾;) …and now video!
Bring it on! :D
@pedro I would just get touchOSC tbh not only is it worth it There’s so much stuff you can do and so much amazing things just within the protocol itself. It’s actually a detriment to not have it. lol 😂
TouchOSC has to be running in the foreground in order to do anything, as noted earlier. Unless it and Drambo are running in windowed mode together on an iPad, or unless you send midi between devices, which ends up being a hassle more often than not, it's a bit tough for me at least to find uses for it.
OSC is a super useful protocol, but not supported by Drambo or many other apps.
TouchOSC is one of those solutions I keep hoping to find an problem for ... for many years.
@pedro Those cheapo gamepad-style BT controllers usually only have a joystick with switches, forget controlling an XY pad with them.
Proper native game controller support looks like the only sane way, other than using one of these Alps mini potentiometer joysticks attached to a Raspberry Pico with Bluetooth MIDI :)
