Shameless plug: i wanted to share here that I have been working on something similar. It’s not ready to be released, but you can hear what it does here:
its a generative counterpoint engine that takes a melody input and creates additional voices.
The goal here was to make each generated voice play musically coherent and interesting melodies, using established concepts in musical composition and arrangement. The engine also handles off-scale notes musically. It’s intended as a performance tool for improvisation or to spark ideas for composition, and it lets the player shape the output while playing, based on broad concepts like tension/release, motion, motifs and so on.
i have been working on other stuff lately, so this project has been laying dormant for a while.. but if this is something that sounds like an interesting expansion to the new generative midi module, I’d be happy to share some more details on the algorithm.
