I thought swing wasn’t working recently but I think it’s to do with which steps the swing is applied to. Place beats on every step and then move the swing slider - can you hear it then?
Use a midi sequencer module instead of the fixed one and set it to read from the time input, put a swing module to the left of it, set it to 2 steps per beat. I think that's 8th swing.
I would love a way to have negative offsets for steps but from what I gathered from previous discussions is that would not be easy.
the only way I found of doing that is modulating sequencer time input, speeding and slowing down to achieve let’s say, a samba swing
better yet would be groove templates that would allow both swing time and velocity scaling
anyway, that seems like it would benefit 0.1% of usage cases, because when I see people talking about swing they always mean the classic “every even 16th” delayed
Swing (from a music theory perspective) can be applied to both 16th and 8th notes. In jazz it’s more common on 8ths but it can also be applied to 16ths.
i went back to the sequencer module. 8 of them in a layer switch.
they are set to host. they are running all in sync.
i can switch rapidly and everything stays tight.
when i introduce the swing time module, i have to switch the sequencer module to time.
then i can fiddle about with swing params and get some weird stuff and eventually "swing", but when i stop the transport, i get a trigger. i mean a note triggers on stop.
Well you have several options. Here's an example I made for freely adjusting the timing within a beat scope, so you can create your custom swing profile down to quarter notes (I've defaulted to most common swing but adjust it to your liking).
Of course it follows your project tempo automatically.
Anothe thing you could do to inject swing would be a swing module on the first track and midi quanrize-modules on the other tracks connected to the time signal of the swing

Working here
cool, thanks!
but what can that be then?
i push the swing slider to the far right, but nothing.
is there something else i have to set to get swing to work? @giku
@wowo If it doesn't work for you we have an issue. Could you tell me more? Is Drambo synchronized with something? Live / MIDI clock etc?

@giku drambo standalone, no sync, no live, no nothing.
as @pedro suggested, when filling each step (16th), there is indeed something (swing?) going on.
the tempo is 169bpm, pattern has 16 steps, events are on 8th.
huh, now the whole show even crashed while testing:)
sorry, i mixed @Robin and @pedro
I hope there was crash report send and you have developer feedback enabled in the settings.
Yes swing happens between succeeding 16th not 8.
ok, so nothing wrong with swing then?
can't see any developer feedback setting. where is that meant to be? @giku
@wowo On your ipad
Settings app / Privacy & Security / Analytics and improvements / Share iPad analytics
@giku i had the analytics stuff disabled. so no crash report i think.
then it crashed once more and i went and enabled it.
tried to replicate the crash, but no more:)
as for the swing thing...
how can i get that, or something similar (shuffle?) for 8th notes patterns?
Use a midi sequencer module instead of the fixed one and set it to read from the time input, put a swing module to the left of it, set it to 2 steps per beat. I think that's 8th swing.
thank for the tip!
initially i wanted to go the sequencer module route, but i found it unusable for my purpose.
which is rapidly switching between ~10 sequences without loosing timing.
i used a layers switch module for that, but it turned out all wonky.
so i went with scenes, which is working flawlessly supercool, except the swing.
ok, had another crash related to swing.
analytics were enabled.
does it send the crash report automatically?
This makes me think whether it would make sense to offer more variety in swing than just the classic "Move every even 16th note".
Seems to be fine as-is for 99% of the users though ;)

i always was one of those:)
i think it would make alot of sense to have more swing options. (for the rest of us:)
aren't 8th, quarter, half notes all even 16th as well?
so if even 16th are shifted, why not those?
@rs2000 @pedro
also, when i was in music school, i learned that swing is dotted eights. like: tah da, tah da, tah da...
No they're odd, at least if you start counting at 1 for the first step.

Yes. It only depends on how you look at it.

what could that be?
that's what i say.
one could do it manually, but then it's tied to the tempo.

Do you mind if I share this with the dRambo Facebook group.
My recent swing variation still relies upon the Delay module and even without trying your one myself I know it will undoubtable work.
I can't delete that quote...

@rs2000 thank you for your effort here.
i checked it out and it makes some nice swing:)
but it also triggers the first note in sequencer module on main transport stop.
this seems to be somehow related to time signal i think?
@giku ?
@gravitas Sure, go ahead! It's public on Patchstorage already.
Cool.
Thank you.
look, @rs2000 when i paste your patch here on an empty track, it looks like this:
That's an old bug.
Disconnect something and then reconnect it back where it should be and it should return the colours back to normal.
@wowo Try saving it as a track preset instead, and recall the preset on your track(s) of choice.
@rs2000 Done.
