Make your synth more “analog”

Here’s a really simple but fun tip to make your synth sound more analog. Add a very small amount of random to the oscillator tuning. It’s surprising just how much flavor this can add to the sound. A little goes a long way.

In this example patch I set the random amount down to 0.01. Make sure to set the random to bipolar. Turning up the random knob on the oscillator up to about 1/4 way up sounds really nice to my ear. At 0.5 it’s starting to sound like an analog synth that needs to be taken to the repair shop.
