choral!ty, an ambient chorus
hi folks! here's a new thing:
big thanks @bcrichards for polyphony examples and advice!
enjoy! /dan
blurb:
choral!ty is a sort of ambient chorus for Drambo with lots of bells & whistles. it is a 1-16 voice chorus made with parallel lfo modulated delays. graphic shapers vary the time, amplitude and pan of the delays per voice. tremolo, pitch & filter fx also vary across voices.
choral!ty comes as a Drambo project containing 10 preset racks. it can be use as an au audio fx. load Drambo (fx), open choral!ty-010.drproject & unmute input. use the "1" buttons to enable presets.
presets:
duo: sparkly. basic 2 voice chorus + micro-frequency shifting.
duotoo: dark-ish. 2 voice chorus + tremolo & resonant lp.
trio: ensemble-ish. 3 spaced phased voices + dual resonant lp's.
quatro: transparent. 4 phased voices + micro-freq shifts.
quinto: subtle ambience. 5 spaced voices, slow random modulation. plays well with other presets.
nono: gigantic. 9 spaced voices, random mod + trem, formant filter & dual resonant lp's. takes a fair bit of cpu.
uni: basic vibrato.
fxlib: all voice fx modules here, for copy/paste.
mini: quinto sans impulse view, for a bit lower cpu.
choral!ty parameters:
time: base delay time.
rate: speed of lfo that modulates base delay time.
phase: per voice phase offset of lfo relative to prior voice.
depth: strength of lfo modulation of base delay time.
smooth: amount of lfo smoothing.
width: amount that alternate voices are panned left/right.
mix: dry/wet.
voices: number of parallel voices. rounded down, so approximate tap/drag values ok.
lfo: mostly preset. change shape as desired.
* depth: scale lfo depth, for very small/large modulations.
- even: invert delay modulation for even voices.
= pan: equal pan for odd/even voice pairs.
shapes: shaper input is normalized voice number.
time shape: adjust delay time per voice, from 0 to the base delay time.
amp shape: adjust per voice volume.
pan shape: adjust per voice panning, from center to max left/right.
fx: modular per voice fx.
dry: dry output level
wet: wet output level. adjust to match dry level, depending on the number of voices.
!!: show impulse response. "!" for 1 impulse, "!!" for continuous.
Comments
hello all! i'm a bit surprised that a deep, hackable, Drambo native chorus got no feedback. but no worries. choral!ty is really quite nice imho. in particular, the slow, random per voice tremolo adds a lovely, subtle movement to the chorus. the micro frequency shift fx is nice too. just uploaded a minor new release that adds the tremolo fx to most presets. questions & feedback welcome. enjoy! /dan
I need to check this out! Thanks Dan.
