Turn A Module On/Off With A Button

Sometimes you just want to be able to quickly turn a module on/off without menu diving. So here’s how to do it.

I'm having a bit of trouble following the the directions, should the button be before or after the morph in the rack?

    A pic would help.

Not able to follow the directions....

    1. Load a Morph module and a Button module
    2. Press ‘Amount’ on the Morph module and select the Button you want to use. Then set that knob to -1.00
    3. Keep the Morph Amount knob set to 1.00
    4. Make sure the module you want to turn On/Off is currently on (Enabled)
    5. Press ASSIGN on the Morph module, arm the Drambo MUTE button and map the module header (the one you want to mute) to Morph, by tapping on it

I'm stuck on step 5, I'm trying to toggle the midi arp module.

I'm lost on the steps above.

If I press assign now, then button 1 it does NOT look assigned.

And, when I press the header of arp3 it just opens the dialog

I really need this in my setup, I need to toggle the arp and the midi chance.

Help on this would be greatly appreciated!

Is there a video that has this procedure?

@genmce have you tried putting the arp into the layer switch, that came with the last update?

  • Can’t get it to work either, on a quick test on phone, will try on ipad when I have a chance

but I’m not even sure it’s supposed to work. I get the concept, modulate amount of morph with a button (it will be 0..1) then morph the mute button (can’t get it working) and somehow the morph understanding you tapped some module to mute it after the M button? That would be some next level easter egg by Giku or someone hacked their way into the matrix (wouldn’t be the 1st time).

I would have to see this working but it’s a fun brain tease so far

but fun as it is, why not keep to tried and true? You can switch the output of any module with some kind of amp modulated by the switch

or like it has been suggested the layers switch module, which is amazing in many ways, but for starters it only wastes cpu on current layer so you can load a bunch of modules or even external AUs, so you can have different arps (as your example) and modulate the index to select which is active

  • There are 9 steps in the original post. Important to carry out all of them.

It works perfectly here. I wouldn't have posted it otherwise. Keep trying, I'm sure you'll get there.

  • That's reassuring but I have other plans for the evening

Sorry for not posting all of the steps.

Is the picture i posted correct?

When I press assign (it turns red) then I press the button. The amber colored box does not show up around the button, showing it assigned... If it click on the arp header it just opens the arp module dialog, also never getting assigned.

Could you help me out here?

  • @tyslothrop1 I've not heard of layer switch. I just arrived to drambo about 2 weeks ago, still much to learn.

  • Pay close attention to these steps:

    5. Press ASSIGN on the Morph module, arm the Drambo MUTE button and map the module header (the one you want to mute) to Morph, by tapping on it

    6. Now go back to the Morph module and press ASSIGN again to lock it in

Be persistent, keep trying till you get it right.

  • @genmce I suspect it might solve your problem with a single extra module. You can find the layer switch under the mixer category just add it and then add the arp in the first layer, if you leave the second one empty you can effectively turn the arp on and off and that can be p-locked, too.

  • Would you post a pic of what the rack should look like, please?

I have done these steps 10 times.

If I make the order of the modules

    • Buttons>Morph>arp I can connect buttons to morph amount, but NOT assign button 1 to morph
    • Morph>buttons>arp I cannot connect buttons to morph, but I can assign button to morph

@tyslothrop1 the module would still be active just not receiving/processing signal? I believe my setup may grow to need the cpu savings from disabling module. Though maybe I don't understand that part either...

  • @tyslothrop1 Switch layer works, thanks!

I could not get the OP method to work, alas. I'm not sure witch method would save more cpu?

@genmce Here’s a project file with the button set up to turn the Arp On/Off. Uncompress the .zip first, only zip files can be loaded here.

Just hold down some notes and you should hear the Arp. Then press the button to turn the Arp module off.

Press the button again to turn the Arp back on. You have to rekey notes for it to play again.

Hope it helps. Sorry for the delay responding, I’ve been working.

  • Layer switch has the added value of being able to control the transition time

  • @Jökulgil Thank you for uploading the file. It definitely works.

I will try again to create one of my own.

I think I'm missing the Drambo Mute step.

Is the M button in the pic the Drambo Mute I need to arm?

@Jökulgil Yes, that was the missing piece!

    Thanks again!

  • Yes, Step 6. Press ASSIGN on the Morph module, arm the Drambo MUTE button and map the module header (the one you want to mute) to Morph, by tapping on it.

It’s a critical step, I’m pleased it’s working for you and was happy to help.
