How to p-lock the X/Y pad?

edited August 30 in How to's

I’m trying to use the X/Y pad to control the buffer repeat. I have connected X to buffer size, Y to speed and the gate/touch to the trigger/freeze of the buffer repeat. It works fine using it live during playback, but I want to automate it with p-locks. I select a step with the select tool button, then I touch the X/Y pad. When doing this with any knob it would set the p-lock at that position when I let go of it, but the X/Y just lights up but with an orange border, which I don’t know what it means, and then nothing seems to happen since when I play back the sequence there’s no change in the sound when the playhead passes it.

edit: Though there seems to be a p-lock red marker on the selected step, but I’m not sure what it’s doing exactly.

  • You did it correctly, and obviously there's a bug that makes X/Y pad p-locks ineffective.

  • Just tested and the X/Y pad aspect works fine here with p-locks, but there is an issue with the gate - which supposed to trigger the whole effect in your rack, but it’s either locks as gate on or as gate off and stays like that - which is kind of understandable as it is expecting a touch input for gate which isn’t present when p-locked.

  • Aw, bummer. What would be the most effective work around for this? I’m doing this now and it seems to be working:

Using the switch button utility module and p-locking it to turn it on and to turn off (if I don’t p lock the off part it gets stuck turned on). Is there a smarter way to send patterns of gate signals with different lengths in steps? Finally, I’m just p locking the buffer repeat knobs directly which works fine.

  • @Nimgwen I would try the Graphic Modulator for this.

Drawing shapes in bar mode (and with Snap X = 16) might be the easiest way to automate and edit.
