Update videos 21 Oct ‘24

Will there be videos to highlight the benefits of each of the new updates and how you might use them?

  • I'd love this as well! Or at least a brief summary here

  • I've read that of course, but it's not clear how all these things work...

For example, resizable rack area - I'm not seeing any drag launcher control in the UI (at least that I can find). Is this inside of the rack modules? Or the new Flexi time stretching - how is this different than how it worked before? I don't see any overt changes in the Flexi UI that lets me know what to try.

Sorry if I'm slow to figure these things out! Excited to dig into the new stuff.

  • Some of my personal highlights:

    • Double tap on AUv3 floating window to maximize
    • FFT based Vocoder module
    • Resizable rack zoom level (iPad only, drag the launcher arrow symbol)
    • Projects and Sample browser - search function!
    • Pattern menu: You may set the number of steps for all clips
    • Piano roll: New snapping options / triplets
    • Fixed: MIDI control takeover mode
    • MIDI mapping menu now persistent and remains visible
    • Flexi: New time stretching!!!
    • iOS System AUv3s are optional, disabled by default, may be enabled in settings
    • MIDI note generator module - channel param addedd
    • New module: Layers switch (mixer section). Works with CV/audio and MIDI. Only active layer is processed (CPU saver).
    • Filter module: 2 new modes HP24 and BP24
    • MIDI input module
    • CV quantizer - added MIDI mode: Notes are dynamically set by incoming MIDI signal
  • The list prompted the ask because it doesn’t show you what it does or tell you the benefit or how you might use it. Somethings, like the new filter types, are obvious. Most are not. It’s my only grumble about Drambo. Some short videos, even by forum members, would help bring all the hard work to life.

The ‘Help’ in module is ok but again no explanation, benefits or what you might consider using it for.

With these I hope more of the hard work would be seen.

  • @Nuuksio I fully agree, apparently there aren't many people who want to spend the time to make and upload videos, not to mention the downsides of using Youtube as a video distribution platform.

We're happy to answer specific questions here though, and yes, I'll think about writing some help text too 😊

I didn’t mean to burden you specifically. You are exceptional, always helping, showing solutions and inspiring.

The lack of comprehensive, updated manuals and videos showing new features is a big downside of iOS development. I wish all developers would focus on this (with assistance) as I’m sure it would help get their hard work more seen, understood and actively used.

Sometimes even simple pictures with arrows, showing where a new feature can be found, gets over the hurdle of having limited time. Wanting to see what’s new, but also prioritising making something, being creative, or attempting to, over trying to find something and working out what it does and what it could add.

@Nuuksio let´s hope "Hey it´s Ben" is still around to bring a video at some point :)

In the meantime, I had a quick play and here are a few points to get you started.

    • Resizable rack area: this has nothing to do with the Rack module, easy to get confused there! Rather, grab the blue ^ on the middle of the screen at the right side, and drag it up/down. The % rack zoom is displayed in the top info box. On my iPad I can now change between 85 % and 163 % for the rack display. This means that in multitrack view, I can adjust 3 tracks at the same time, this used to be 2.
    • Flexi time stretching: Tap the module header and notice a new menu item, "Stretching". Enable it and try it out e.g. with the conga loop at 125 bpm: set Flexi sync from Native to 4 beats, launch to Pattern mode, hit play and adjust Drambo BPM up/down. Quite an improvement with extreme BPM adjustments! And very smooth with real-time changes.
  • Thanks. Just tried those two. Unfortunately got a crash reducing that loop down to the low 20’s bpm. 5th Gen 12.9 iPad Pro on iPadOS 18.0.1

  • @rs2000 any quick tips for how to best connect and use the vocoder? I got no audio out from my quick and dirty first attempt.

(try the vocal samples in flexi)

  • Could you please send your project with samples to @giku and describe the steps to reproduce the crash?

    Thanks!

  • I just followed the steps set out exactly as in bleep’s post. Sorry there is no project file to send. I started from New then it crashed. Only thing I noted was I didn’t enter a 16 step note and press Play. I was triggering the Flexi by playing notes as I was adjusting the tempo. Hope that can be replicated and helps.

@rs2000 I just tried what @Nuuksio says and got the same crash, using the mentioned factory conga loop. Had it on launch mode Pattern, sync 4 beats, and hit play with stretching on, then reduced Drambo bpm. My crash occured when I got to 24 bpm. iPad 6, iOS 17.1.

    @pedro thanks, that makes sense.

  • @bleep Can’t reproduce the crash re: flexi timestrech (iphone 14 ios17)

this just a new project with a flexi set to 4 beats

  • Audio settings are often relevant when crashes occur on some devices but not on others. Mine are 44.1 kHz and 512 buffer size.

  • Mine straight out of the box are Sample Rate 48000 Hz and Buffer Size 512 Samples.

  • Tried from the new update:

    Flexi Stretch ✅

    Vocoder with Flexi ✅

Wave Scanner with Radio Unit AU ✅

That’s the reality. Without recipes, video shorts or clear benefits, all that hard work can go unseen.

Shame because as well as inspiring existing owners, I believe seeing this stuff would bring in additional sales.
