Drambo and Fireface UCX bug

I use drambo a lot and I find I’m always having to do this weird dance when I first start the program after plugging in my USB sound card (RME fireface UCX). Often only the first two outputs appear, I have to go in to another program like Cubasis, play something out of all 18 outputs (it has an ADAT expander I use for talking to my ES-8 in my modular) and then after quitting and restarting drambo all the outputs will show and work properly - though I still have to go manually through my patch and re select all the external outputs.

Does anyone else get this problem with external sound cards? I really love Drambo and I don’t want to ditch my RME… I think it’s a drambo issue because Cubasis seems to work first time.

I don't have this interface, but I've never had an issue with my outputs on my MOTU Ultralite Mk5 or an iConnectivity Audio4+. The latter has about 20 I/O (it supports bridging two computers/iPads) and they have shown up fine. The few bits of weirdness I've run into seemed to just be iOS in general across iOS hosts (Loopy Pro, AUM, apeMatrix, Drambo).

It's possible something has been introduced just recently because I haven't used an interface in a few months. Or maybe something weird with just this interface and Drambo somehow.

Btw, it sounds like you are using the "Audio Input" module, but you might want to try using the audio input options from clicking on the track number in the module view (the immovable left-most module). That seems to retain interface selections even if you unplug/plug in audio interfaces.

  • Sometimes it retains it but it doesn’t work, like the graphic stays saying what it should but it doesn’t actually supply audio. Sometimes it just doesn’t list the outputs. I’ll moan at RME too but they seem pretty useless these days which is ironic given their reputation for solid driver support. Last couple of times I’ve contacted them they blame Drambo / iOS.

Feel like a Mexican bug standoff

  • Btw yeh using the audio input module because I have quite an esoteric template going that routes all the inputs to a single track and in to loopy pro then out to individual tracks for effects processing. It’s great being able to jam live hit a button and get a 4 bar loop of what ever I just did, queue mix the next thing and then auto fx mix the next thing in…… when it works 😂

  • There was a user with the same interface some time ago reporting same/similar behaviour.

    2 suggestions:

    • Can you ‘request’ multi i/o from TotalMix FX app?

There are 3 options: no preference; stereo; multichannel

    • Could you try to launching D before plugging in your interface, does it make a difference?

Doing that solved the issue in my setup with Focusrite 18i20.

  • Oh yeh that was me, I kind of hoped a raft of iOS / Drambo / RME updates would fix it but it still persists. I have the card set to multichannel.

Next time I'm in front of it I'll try seeing if launching drambo before plugging in the card makes a difference.
