Twister FX community project
Inspired by @pedro ’s ‘haven’t finished track in years’ thread I thought I’d start a little open community project to create a performance multi effect rack inspired by a well known entity. There’s no iPhone version of that app so I thought it would make many existing Drambo users happy and perhaps join some others to buy Giku’s amazing creation.
Anyway, I’ll upload a basic project here and however’s inclined can then create a sub rack and fill it with desired effects. Please feel free to alter the main rack if you think it will improve its intended performance use. I’d say, let’s focus on movement and rhythm. Whatever.
Also feel free to mess with the generator modules as I didn’t pay much attention to making anything decent. Perhaps avoid adding samples to keep the project lean.

Which entity do you mean?
There are so many apps out there 😉
the new Twister remake was pretty good tbh, it felt like Twister meets Road House! Was a lot better than I expected, less flying cows than I care for though.
Fun idea :)
I have a riddle for you
Twister aka….?
https://weatherstationpro.com/twister-vs-tornado/
Hehe, sweet bites, gotcha :)
I might start like this:
Stutter lets me adjust the speed of the rhythmic effect. Pushing multiple buttons at once would combine them.
Rhythmic shape is the shape of the cutting curve. Rev would be higher attack, zero decay per stutter pulse.
Morph is the magic throttle lever to wade through the FX jungle.
The Comb/LPF/HPF/Reso shapers will determine at which position of the throttle which effect has which strength.
Just a first sketch because I'll be out for a ride now 😉
This may just be what I need! Starred ⭐️ and looking forward to studying your creations. I think this is where I lack the most, giving movement and space to raw sounds. I can come up with nice tones and weird noises, and modulate them to bring up the interesting spots, but after that I keep on using the same old handful of tricks in the fx department and I end up never managing anything I like enough.
Hopefully this will give me a headstart and maybe inspire me to contribute something interesting myself
Hey guys, not sure you got the idea or idea t being a collaborative effort. @rs2000 maybe download the file from the original post and paste/edit at will?
Same for you @pedro 😉
❤️
Yeah that looks sweet! And that’s just what @rs2000 managed to pull off while he was packing for his ride 😄
but my previous experience with collaborations is it turns to havoc in no time (which is fun and probably the whole point of the experience). But we need version control, if we’re being serious, otherwise everyone pulls into their own direction and soon loses track of everyone else’s ideas cause we’re only focusing on our own. And all the project renumbering, unzipping, duplicating… there has to be a better way
Given the immersive nature of music, doing it online is a major challenge. If only we could all be in the same room (separate beds), but
could we perhaps use something like github for collaborative projects?
Cheers @pedro I hear you re different directions in fact I’ve suggested putting individual sub racks into the existing rack. I know it’s perhaps a limitation but would avoid hijacking’s of the project.
I’m probably the wrong person to be setting the rules due to my limited knowedge but I thought I’d get the ball rolling.
My idea was to use Turnado as a guide as opposed to trying to recreate the thing.
To me, if we end up with a bunch of macros that control a bunch of beat synched effects with a big macro to rill them small macros, we’re on the right track. If it the project doesn’t quite get there that’s ok too. It will maybe spur someone to reattempt in a different manner.
Even if it’s just a poor man’s Turnado or even Korg Kaoss Quad or similar I’d sure use it.
I’m not too familiar with GitHub.
I was just thinking in a broader sense but maybe it was that thing I smoked, like how we could make collaborative projects including tracks, and midi to go with those tracks, and modules etc, and keep versioning. I know very little about github though
Sorry to derail, I think your idea is great!
And you had me at using turnado as a guide 😀
Hey everybody, first post here. Nice idea!
I made something not necessarily for this project, but maybe it fits. If you want it (or parts of it), I’ll gladly upload it.
The crusher part is the BBDResonator, so if the rack should be free for everybody that should be taken out.
I would have posted a YouTube link, but the site won’t let me. Ok, then the rack right away.
Maybe a bit of a description might make sense… It’s 5 xy=Pads that trigger momentary FX that are hooked up in series. First a retrigger, then a HP/LP combo, a BBDResonator, a Convolver with a SpringIR (don’t know if that’s included in the file, now that I think about it) into a delay.
@tyslothrop1 if you save a project and toggle the “Save With Samples” option, you can then share the project and it will include all the samples you used.
This requires you load the rack/patch you want to share into a fresh project, but it’s the simplest solution!
@parkerfrost Thanks, that workaround is easy enough:)
Cheers @tyslothrop1
I didn’t have the time to deconstruct your project but I added some x/y pads in front of the rack. I guess that should have been the first step since the OG uses four of those.
I’m still hoping that some Drambo heavy weights will weigh in. I’d like to make use of the morph knobs and perhaps automate/modulate those but still thinking of how to approach it.
In the meantime….
Slightly tidier version.
I have to say I’m not entirely satisfied with the repeater module. The timing isn’t very musical when engaged.
@supadom Cheers. Maybe quantizing the trigger and putting a graphic shaper in to only allow more straightforward values might make it more useful. I'll see if I can get somewhere.
@rs2000 in a free moment, would you mind uploading the actual file of your idea so I can understand it better?
On the whole I’d rather use a knob (like in Turnado) with various stutter seeds as opposed to buttons for every division.
Correct me if I’m wrong but I thought enabling strict already takes care of the quantization? My issue lies in the stutter effect not responding immediately, giving the feeling of sloppiness.
@supadom I guess there's a bit of a mixup... I thought you were talking about the beat repeat in my patch. Is "strict" a setting in the punch-in FX? I tried the last project you uploaded, especially liked the distortion xy-pad. The Stutter I didn't get to work at all, it went silent on touch.
Strict setting is in the buffer repeat module.
I also have the issue of going silent on touch. I don’t know if it’s a bug or user error but I did report it. If you turn freeze on the buffer module on and off it starts to work again.
Cool, will try it later.
