Weird tremolo effect when adding envelope to filter?

Hello all. I hope this finds you well. As you can probably tell by my routing (it’s shite!) I am new to Drambo. I’m trying to make a brassy stab right now, but when I add an envelope for the filter. I get this weird glitch effect as if there’s a tremolo on my sound. Any idea what I’m doing wrong? Any insight is greatly appreciated!

  • You’ve used the amp envelope that is processing the oscillator mixer! It’s modulating at audio rate so it sounds different than expected.

use a modulation envelope (under modulator section) for sub audio rate (slow) modulation. double tap the amp env modulation knob to remove. Then add an envelope, and assign that to the cutoff.

You can follow the signal path by tapping the input socket of the module - it will highlight the current output. You can also use the color cues, if that helps. The different signal types - signal, gate, pitch, velocity - will connect automatically but can always be overridden.

  • BTW you can also use a Graphic Env for classic filter cutoff (or whatever destination) control over time.

It not only lets you shape the modulation curve precisely, but also quickly change the overall time and above all, it shows you a line "scanning" the curve when you hit a key so you can see what's happening.

  • Damn! You guys are dope. Thanks big time for the help! As a long time music gear head, Drambo has been amazing and the community seals the deal :)

  • I do wish the amp envelopes had 'CV Output' as well. Currently they output the processed audio which more or less 'filter fm' when attached to the cutoff knob.

Sometimes I just use the modulator envelope and hook it to the amp module, this way I can keep things simple when re-creating the architecture of say an SH-101 which only has one envelope, a X-1 module can then be used as a 'gate switch' (Gate / Envelope Output) when connected to the amp.
