Seeking help: how do I overlap MIDI notes through a pattern loop?
Hi all,
Apologies in advance for this probably (hopefully) stupid question. I'm sure I've seen someone ask this already, but I just spent ages searching and can't find the answer in my search term soup. First, a picture:
I'm sequencing an external bass synth here; my module is a single MIDI Output block. For the bassline, I want the very first note of the song to trigger the full envelope. All notes after that should glide right over the attack.
It's easy to do this within a pattern: just drag the note so it overlaps the next one. But can I make the final note overlap the first in the pattern?
At first I thought I could solve this by increasing the last step's Gate value. In the screenshot, you can see that the last step's Gate is at "17.5". I got that by stretching the note as far right as I could. If I try to set "Gate" directly, the highest it goes is 16. If I pull the Gate slider higher after that, it switches to INF. And INF actually ends one step sooner than 17.5…? Hmm. Back to the drawing board.
Strangely, I think I hit a bug where INF turned into the max integer, at which point everything worked perfectly. But now I can't replicate the bug… 😅
So, any pointers? I also tried using CV Glide and MIDI Latch to no avail, but I'm sure I'm missing something simple. Thanks in advance!

You're right the gate isn't carried over to the next repeat. I don't think there is a simple solution, it might be possible to make a patch that allows for p-locking gate length but not immediately obvious.
One quick and dirty solution would be to enter edit mode, shift last note back few beats, exit edit mode, drag the note to the end of the pattern, then again enter edit mode and shift note back to its place 🤷♂️
Wow, that's a super simple and great workaround!
An even faster trick to do this:
Improving note entry/sequencing is my #1 wanted feature at this point. Its definitely usable but could be even more awesome. Would love an easier way change pitches and velocity (which gets hard when also doing chords).
Fantastic workaround, thank you @clowm and @rs2000!! Since this is way more of a hack than I was expecting, I'm going to make a quick post in Feature wish-lists.

Totally agree @quartzite, I would love to see step mode get some love. It's a bit off topic, but does anyone else get full, session-destroying crashes while messing around in step mode? Just me?
You get crashes while editing?
If there's any chance to reproduce these, please make sure you send them to @giku, including a crash log from Settings => Privacy => Analytics and a description how to reproduce.
Crashes always have the highest priority.
Improved note editing is planned but as we expected, getting AUv3 host support stable eats a lot of development time for now.
I've definitely had them. Less recently but I had one a few days ago. Was copying a step and BOOM.
Pretty sure that one sent, I was off wifi so I'm not sure what it does with the reports I send if there is no connection.
Sending a crash report directly out of the feedback dialog didn't really work out for me even on strong WiFi, the best bet is to find the report under Settings, Privacy, Analytics and mail it.
Thanks for letting me know about Settings => Privacy => Analytics. I'll definitely keep an eye on this, and try to see if I can get some reliable repro steps.
(I'm on the stable App Store release for what it's worth)
