Sonobus: Audio over WiFi!
This is too good: Imagine an AUv3 module that allows you to connect audio over WiFi.
No matter if it's between multiple Drambos on different iDevices, between different DAWs or even between iOS and Mac or Windows machines.
You can get the latest beta here:
I love the idea of having an older iPhone plus audio interface permanently connected to the keyboard or guitar rig or HiFi stereo or TV set and record everything on the iPad without cables.
Or attach a good Lightning microphone and have a baby monitor oscillator inside Drambo 😁
Using a delay, you can have a "time machine recorder" inside Drambo that gives you enough time to hit the REC button inside Flexi when sleep talking magic happens.

I tried the wireless set up on two iPads with my mate down the road and found latency too much. I’ve heard that wired Ethernet connection on both ends improve things greatly.
We we’re trying audio but I’ve been wondering whether midi only might by much quicker. Anyone’s tried that?
I wouldn't use it for latency critical stuff. Being able to record wirelessly is great enough for me - although I think that by delaying local audio, you can make it much tighter again.
Sonobus uses IP addresses and ports, so it shouldn't make any difference what medium you're using as long as the peer is actually reachable.
@Gravitas Sorry, no MIDI, only audio. MIDI over BT works well enough though...
But you can use this app to connect two iDevices:
Run it on both iDevices connected to the same network and connect them, then on the sending side, use Midi=>Midi Output set to "Network Session". The app runs in the background and forwards MIDI messages in both directions.
Aah, sorry, the forum software is broken, here's the link again:
I'm curious how well this is going to work. Definitely an interesting experiment 👍🏼
I think with unidirectional transmission and some compensation on the sender side its possible to minmize latency to the level usable for realtime stuff. (especially in local WIFI). Remember that people play Cyberpunk in 4k on Google Stadia :)
If we can get constant latency over the network then definitely yes!
On a busy WiFi link that's unlikely.
yes indeed, gaming is the one to watch when it comes to wireless latency.
