The Battle of the Hangs
Prompted by the conversation about making hang drum in Drambo, in the Karplus thread started by @rs2000, I thought I’d try to make a hang patch.
I’d love other hang, and similar tuned percussion, lovers to unite, and upload their attempts. Maybe between us we’ll get closer to this elusive objective.

Ah poo, I just realised that the patch contains Morph module that is not present in the AppStore version. I will need to reupload it without. Sorry
This is not a hang, intended to be a tongue but only from memory... but a tuned percussion fits... :)
track preset, with morph module as well...
fairly limited range, about 1.5 octave around C3.
That’s nice @rec love those bells
I’ve tried to change patchstorage file to ‘without morph module’ but PS is not liking it. Here’s both versions.
Thanks 😊
just tried the two together driven by Collider... instant fun 👍
It is!!
The tough part is not only all those weird resonances, some of them depend on the hit pad and some are always there, but also the multitude of possible playing styles. I'm not even sure how I would approach control - maybe a keyboard for pitch and hit velocity plus an XY pad for some kind of articulation?
Exactly... though my ‘mission’ quickly went sideways :D
After 20 minutes I was just trying to make something I like... but yeah, these are very expressive beasts, velocity on its own is not enough. I was thinking to redo it in a rack with few controls (knobs) to accompany at least some variations.
Anyway have to practice nonlinear control... with those beautiful curves :)
This is why I need Drambo to start recording radius on my bop pad. That would make a massive difference.
It plays ok live but when radius is hooked up to midi cc modulator module…but it isn’t captured by the sequencer which sucks greatly.
Same here... bought Sensel for finger drumming expressive Drambo percussion... playing live is great, but recording CVs into couple of Flexis is just not feasible in the moment. But we’re basically there :)
@giku has a bop pad so there’s hope he’d be able to find the issue during quieter development time.
A massive shoutout to Reza Shahbazi for his hang patch on patchstorage. It’s not only a great hang repro but simply by switching modes in modal resonator some very sweet percussive sounds can be had. The only thing, there is a fixed bass frequency that I found bothersome but that’s cured by turning down one of the filters in the final mixer.
Very inspiring work.

So ... the winner is the most well hung?
Yep, just hang it next to the others. We’ll let you know.
the most well hung is never the winner cause its a bag of hurt ^^
