Sometimes these titles are not meant to have literal meanings that are easy to translate (even for native English speakers 😜). Especially someone as eccentric as Ka-Spel.
They are often merely meant to be poetic, or simply evoke a feeling.
...and f*** knows what most Aphex Twin track titles are all about.

gee this is so beautiful, I missed it when released
@gravitas can you tell me what the title means?
found one of my old favorites 😀
Have no idea what the title means.
I'm trying to figure out if it's a phonetic play on words or simply gobbledegook. :)
@lala it's old english - think Shakespeare - and means something like this...
Over a 'shalabaster(??)' tide strolled I
OR
I strolled over a shalabaster tide
I'm having trouble decoding the 'shalabaster' bit though (perhaps related to alabaster?)
something like "I took a walk at the white beach/White Sea"?
More or less, yes. 🙂
cool thx,
I thought it was Scottish or something ^^
old English is hard to decipher for me, Im no native English speaker
uh, alabaster tide = rushed sea
I haven't read "olde english" for over twenty years.
Thanks for update. 😏
a German guy has to translate it to you 2 as "I was walking down the rushed sea side" 😂
makes my day
it really sounds like weird gibberish 😂
wait, no
now I get it
he is ON the water
O'er A Shalabast'r Tyde Strolt Ay
"I was riding wild waves" ...

I care because you do 😁
One of the many things that I've learnt over the years is that many
non English speakers speak English better than native English speakers
and U.K. education doesn't teach old English anymore unless
it's necessary for your course, degree, blah de blah de blah.
Oh so I'm not the only know in regards to Aphex Twin track nomenclature.
I met his dad by way, his dad was a cabbie, I'm sure he's retired by now.
I dont know, the "over" irritated me
if you are "OVER the tide" you are probably on a boat/bridge? (when they spoke that kind of English there were no airplanes)
my guess is its a quote from who ever the British equivalent of Störtebeker is ... 😂
btw. Mr. Ka-spel is a very down to earth & humble kind of guy and not half as eccentric as it may seem.
I talked to him after a gig for half an hour once.
