the flex envelope connected to a filter and amp can do a pretty good job.
connect it to a scope and take a look at what sort of envelope shapes you can get out of it - certainly has that vactrol-like spike at the beginning with an exponential decay. plus that cumulate setting is great for descending or ascending drum fills.
You'll need a bit more than that. I'd suggest a Graphic Shaper for the output resistance vs. input current emulation and a low pass filter with rise time dependent cutoff control. Actually a fun experiment.
This is from the Vactrol datasheet so you know the typical values:
Not sure how close it gets to vca troll type response but for dynamic CV response, an envelope into integrator with amp turned down gets into some interesting territory. Slap it onto a filter and amp and maybe it gets close?
I’d be in favor of an LPG in the processor section. Drambo can already do waveguide, physical modeling, subtractive, fm, wavetable synthesis. A little addition to make west coast additive a bit easier would be totally awesome.
@rs2000 Nothing in particular, basically along the lines of a compressed version of your V3 LPG patch. I know it could easily be saved as a processor rack, but a dedicated LPG wouldn't be amiss in Drambo - especially one tuned by the boss for his platform.

A quick and easy hack. Actually I do quite like what that does to the sound!
Update: I like the sound of this one better.
V3 after watching a few more YT videos:

it appears I was being a bit of a “vca troll”. This doesn’t seem close to vactrol response.

Can you post an example patch that does exactly what you're talking about?

@rs2000 just tried your Vactrol response chain after a plinky Amp + filter envelope and indeed this sounds really cool! Thanks!
I'm happy you like it!
All the best.
Holy! Thanks for taking the time to look into this š It looks a great solution. I will try it tonight.
