Swarmatron. Any idea how to emulate this wonderful instrument in Drambo??
I think it has something like 8 oscillators and they all change pitch in slightly different variations so it has a big "swarming" sound.

Have you tried to find out a little more about its architecture?
The touch strip looks like it can be done using the scenes crossfader.
@rs2000 great idea! dont know why i didnt think of that π. adjusting the pitch of each OSC in slightly different increments between scenes is a great starting point.
I am working on a setup where you you can use a pitch module sent through an Amp and then a pitch modulator to achieve precise pitch changes with scenes or just a knob. So you could have one oscillator rise 1 octave, one fall 7 semitones, another rise 17 semitones, etc. basically you can set the chord that they land on.
Only thing I don’t have figured out yet would be fm between oscillators.

Nothing easier than that. The Misc => Pitch (overtone) module is just for your convenience.
Or use this if you need an FM modulation input:
@shinyisshiny Man, that box sounds so sick it needs artificial respiration.
Stay safe π
@bcrichards awesome! Thanks for the patch, it sounds great. Big thanks for everything else you have put forth in the community! Your videos really got me jumpstarted on Drambo.
@rs2000 i know! So wild. Trent Reznor used it a bunch in the social network score. Great sounds.
@shinyisshiny I've quickly added demo scenes A and B for using the crossfader.
Feel free to add much deeper modulations and go wild π

Oh, my understanding was that the oscillators actually cross-modulated each other in some way.
also! Modulating oscillator pitch directly will lead to the fm going out of tune at higher amounts, but if you smack a frequency shifter after the oscillator and fm the amount of frequency shift, you get fm on any sound that stays perfectly in tune.
FM and cross modulation (at least in the sense how the term X-Mod is most often used, with the exceptions in some Roland synths where X-Mod is actually ring modulation) are closely related and you just described the difference between linear and exponential FM.
A linear FM index scale is why there's an FM oscillator in Drambo.
May I ask why in your case, you want to use oscillators instead?
I like your "any sound FM" idea! ππΌ
Because you could can do FM on any signal, as opposed to only the wave forms available through the FM operator.
That's true. You're making me remember good old Stroke Machine, one of the few apps that support FM between samples and oscillator waveforms. Great for drum sounds (which is what it was built for originally).
BTW, is there any kind of manual for this beast? I haven't found one.

A free NI Reaktor V5 ensemble which seems to be rather close:

@rs2000 awesome!
heres the manual : hopefully it helps.
Cool, thank you!
What a weird box. They're not even clear about its architecture but at least you can learn what the knobs are doing and that helps understand the youtube vids a little better.
Nothing like building a Drambo version while having your hands on the real thing though π
BTW do you know someone who owns it?
@rs2000 definitely a strange but great box.
i dont know anyone who owns it, but ive played one a couple of times throughout the years. really nothing like it. the ribbons are very expressive and its so warm fuzzy in person.
