miRack might actually be a good example of my point -
making miRack an AUv3 plugin = instant game changer. did anyone really ever object to this!?
hosting AUv3 inside miRack - didn't the explorations into this basically halt miRack development for almost 6 months!? Or maybe it was just getting miRack into the AUv3 "space" at all. Nevertheless - hosting AUv3 in miRack is of marginal significance now that it's an AUv3 itself for most people. Especially if Vitaly creates that magical "inter-AUv3" module to send/receive from other instances :D
Because there are so many nicer ideas that won't consume even a fraction of the development effort ;) I love nice ideas but when they come at a too high cost in effort/attention/support/maintenance they often deserve a place in the "nice ideas attic" backlog.
Glad (and sad) that the piano-roll won't happen :) The idea always felt way too much of a mismatch with the sequencing metaphor that would (also) have consumed to much dev effort. ...but was "such a nice idea" if it could've been done ;)
Truthfully though I don’t really see myself using Drambo as an auv3 container. I like how quick projects load and how they don’t half-crash on loading. Also Drambo keeps me focused, not just trying shiny new toys. I’d much prefer Aum improving the midi preset-loading workflow so I can just run a few auv3 alongside Drambo and switch their presets... You can do it now but it’s a major chore.
I take back what I said about Drambo as an AUv3 Host. Its amazing and load surprisingly quick. Simplifies my life extremely. I may never use any other host again :P
just wanna get things clear, cause I might be mixing up the timeline here..
First (right after launch), it was stated there would never be a piano roll. Then several months later, piano roll was hinted at as being part of the future road map. Then in this thread it is confirmed there won’t be one.
Not trying to be accusational, just curious where the issue/feature currently stands.
Editing chords is what still eats the most time working with the sequencer. Changing different note lengths on a step, moving individual notes out of a chord, duplicating a group of notes at a different pitch etc.
The sequencer is perfect for drums but too limiting for polyphonic tracks.
Nooo don’t do it. Drambo is a groovebox. AU hosting is adding unnecessary complexity. We need individual track lengths and speeds and clips way before something like this.
Drambo is so much more than a groovebox. What makes it so special is how open ended it is. I use it much more as a modular synth/sampler than anything that resembles a groovebox.
The addition of Auv3 makes it all the more versatile.
That was my first thought but I've gone a full 180. For a start I'm sure AU hosting will take Drambo to a far wider audience, which is good news for Drambo. As a host it's really powerful. Handling UI windows is done really well, in combination with Drambo's routing capabilities it's a killer.
We have seen how much work it is to get AUv3 support right.
Although I wouldn't consider it to be absolutely essential, even just little utilities like Thafknar, Streambyter, SpaceCraft make quite a difference in modular rack design.
AUv3 support is also a great addon to Drambo's concept of rather atomic modules.

Its technically possible, but latency makes it unpredictable. It depends on processing buffer size.

haha, I’m actually quite glad about piano roll not happening.
I’d rather have independent sequencer tracks any day. Imagine being able to change step number of the track via midi. 🤯 mind blown
Piano roll or not, the sequencer does need a number of enhancements to make composition inside Drambo less awkward.
It works well for drums and not too bad for bass and solo lines but any chord work is a chore to be honest.
Drambo tracks can be up to 8 voices polyphonic and they deserve a sequencer for musicians who don't want to study trackers and maths 😉
Now, mirack inside Drambo, that’ll be insane!

@quartzite are you beta testing?
Yes!
Nice! I’m glad it’s already made its way to beta and that it managed to “convert” someone :)
^^
it must be a glitch in the software.
I got a notice 2day giku is talking to you here. 😁
^^

Piano roll will be added, quite soon :)
Thanks Giku. I thought I wouldn't want one - but Drambo has become my sole sequencer. It'll be really handy for editing chordal work!
@Gravitas that's great to hear!
@TheInvisibleMan thanks for the update, I can imagine this is a complicated one
+100

So I'm very happy to hear that @giku ❤️
Right decision for the mass appeal.
Wait, what? Not complaining, and I here solemnly vow to purchase each and every single IAP @giku puts out
super excited for this auv3 update. Is there any scope for helping with the beta testing?

It's already done and after releasing Drambo I think it's the second best thing happened to iOS in recent years 😉

I do feel you though, it'll be nice to get more sequencer improvements when they come out!
p.s. I think Giku may be working on speeds currently.
yes!!!! can’t wait. huge

I think it's a savvy move.
