2.20!!!!!!! Great update!
Holy crap the convolver, randomizer, punch in fx and punch in looper are all amazing. The fact that the library is now exposed in to the rest of the iPad is great too. God I love this app. And that bug where automating the Peaking Eq would crash the app got fixed which I've been anxiously waiting for. I only wish I could trigger flexi sampler when the rec menu is open the way I can with the other sampler but whatever I'm still happy.
Am I the only one that thinks Drambo is so great that they been selling off a bunch of hardware cause it just can't do what Drambo does?
Comments
Yeah,…The update is very cool.
Indeed, I'm already loving a few fixes I was waiting for and MIDI AU recording is a great addition :)
I have a couple of questions about new features:
One small suggestion:
In order to record the output of native Drambo MIDI effects, it looks like the only alternative is to add an AU MIDI module and use its Record button. It does need an AU loaded though, which can even be Drambo AU itself. It could make sense to enable recording without an AU loaded, or having a separate MIDI recorder module.
@NoiseFloored there’s midifeed back now.
Though I haven’t tried it yet maybe try using that?
I saw that but what does midi au recording do? Couldn't you record au midi before?
Nice! But how do I get to that menu?
Nope, you could only record whatever was coming as an external input, you couldn't record, say, Rozeta Arp output, or Scaler's.
Ah, that's interesting, thanks! I'll take a look. To be clear though: for me the workaround is more than acceptable, I've already created a MIDI rack for that :)
Im not seeing the Sine-pw type in Oscillator mini thats mentioned in the release notes. Is it missing or am I missing something?
Also what does “added standard apple audio units” mean? Is that different than auv3’s?
No worries.
Yeah, we’ve all got a “Rack for that” somewhere ;)
Yup they are different though they use the same “protocol’s”.
Apple audio units are embedded in the iOS whereas auv3’s are third party apps.
it means you can now use the free plugins from apple that are already on your device if u r on iOS 16.
more new toys to play with
Hm, are there any interesting ones I'm missing out on? I don't know yet if I wanna update to 16
The Apple iOS Audio Units have always been present in the system and used by for example GarageBand, but it's with iOS16 some of them got custom UIs and started to behave and gained some stability when used with other apps so it was safer to enable them.
They were super unstable in iOS13,iOS14 a little better on 15 but very crash-prone. Under iOS16 they are 'usable'.
If they would crash it's when unloading them so it's better to remove the entire AUv3 module than just the Plug-In to be on the safe side.
I've so far not been able to crash the Apple AUv3's on the 11" M1 iPadPro, iPadOS16.2.
Cheers!
Hm, unless there's a real gem in there I think I'll hold off for now.
Is there a way of hiding Apple AUs? I try to trim down on available options in general (analysis paralysis, etc.) which is easy to do with third-party plugins by uninstalling or offloading them
I do like the dynamics processor but it's nothing you couldn't do inside Drambo with native modules.
That is one of my favorites as well, gate/downward-expander/compressor/limiter all baked into one.
Exactly :)
Never mind, I found it!
A new little Jam and Project file for you new upgraders:
NOTE: Project file and OP-1f samples included in the Video Description
have you found the SEM filter and the clipper, yet?
The new filter is on the bottom of the drop down on analog filter and the clipper is in Shaper at the bottom.
if you tweak "tone" of the filter it blends from low to notch to highpass ...
they both sound great and add a lot of new colors :)
u need to scroll down in the menu
sine pd is sine to saw
below is sine to pulse
if u are a friend of "strange & wonderful" look into the fur generator
Loving 2.20!
SO many new features, modules, little polishes here and there! I keep finding new things!
I did have one crash yesterday while working on an existing project, which surprised me, because Drambo has never crashed as far as I can remember. I tried to swipe left on a clip to bring up the piano roll (which I never do, I’ll usually just tap the piano roll button) but I just restarted my iPad, and chalked it up as a glitch moving an existing project to the new version.
Oh man, the new clip length features are amazing, and I JUST realized we can now name clips! Yes!
Thank you @giku for all the hard work you’ve put into our favorite modular groovebox!

Ah I just realized that the MIDI FX record function can be used to record from AUs with keyboards as well, which I find particularly useful with drum synths/samplers. One more question: being able to record to the sequencer with the MIDI FX record button enabled but the main record button disabled is by design, right?
Also @gravitas: how is MIDI feedback used exactly?
Sine pd isn’t new though. The release notes say “added square-sine and sine-pw”
