The Crave has individual outs for it’s CEM 3340 oscillator chip, a chip that is used for umpteen synth designs, more on that later, so I’ve patched out 3 individual oscillator signals from the Crave into my Komplete Audio mkii, which is hosting AUM, in this instance AUM is doing what it does best.
On the SAW oscillator I have inserted the “Jaf Collection” from Jens Guell which has a rather nice selection
of stereo analogue modelled filters, next is dRambo and finally it’s the Moog Model 15 filter, the 904A.
Bearing mind all of these filters are digital and the one on the Crave is analogue,
I was rather impressed at the “rendering” of the digital filters.
The Crave has it’s own VCA but the individual oscillator outputs don't
so I’m using dRambo’s ADSR module instead.
The Master bus has Blind Eq from Audiothings and Channel Strip from Audio Damage and
the Master output from the Komplete Audio mkii is going into a dBX Project 1, 266A compressor
which for test purposes isn’t ideal but from a musical standpoint absolutely wonderful.
If the iphone 7 was more powerful I would’ve added more processing just to see what it would sound like.
Point being there's a vast palette available for sound design and composition at one's fingertips.
I don’t actually, I guess they’re pretty simple though, probably just protection for the LEDs ? I’ll have a look about and maybe at the back on one of mine…
I mostly use the vactrols I have for way too easy CV control, but I need to figure out other ways as they’re too expensive for the amount I want to incorporate in the Witak thing I want to build, thinking FET are the way to go… I’m also thinking about building some ghetto ones from incandescent light bulbs; more slow and even quite pretty. Apparently they used to be made like that.
Comments
@gravitas My pleasure :) and nice setup.
btw. talking about Behringer I recommend 2600 Blue Marvin
@giku Thank you. 🙏🏾
I saw that 2600 Blue Marvin. ;)
The colour is rather cool.
Before I get to there, I do need to get an audio interface that outputs loads of CV.
I’ve already found my favourite patches on the Crave, I’ve even tried it through the
Moog’s Model 15 filter from their app, JAF Collection and now I want to dRambo all of the inputs.
The nice thing about the Crave is that it has individual outs for OSC Pulse, Saw, LFO Tri and Square and noise,
which I’m sure you know, so I’m starting to route those signals into my audio interface to drop effects on them.
The other nice thing about having the individual outs from the Crave or any synth is that I can nowuse dRambo’s envelopes filters and effects etc.
Fun….;)
"dRambo feat' Crave",

True @gravitas, the JAF Collection is a really nice set of filters. I almost forgot about it.
Have you considered adding a delay to build up some polyphonic joy? :)
Yeah, I have thought about it but my iphone 7 said ,”no way José”, until I did some reconfiguring last night. ;)
I have been diligently mapping the AUM project to the LC XL, more news on that later.
I’m also going to do a configuration in dRambo rather soon including the LFO/filter sweep that I’ve got going on.
Combined with dRambo, the Crave is a joy to use, if I the Crave was my only main sequencer
I would’ve been deep learning it’s sequencer by now but simply running a usb cable out to it takes away that need
and I’ve also discovered the joys of calibrating the oscillator. :)
This arrived in the post yesterday and I had to collect it today.
It’s called an Optothing, it’s the first version not the second one.
Now I can really find out what the furore is about in regards to low pass gates.
Oh, that's excellent! Looking forward to hearing it 😊
And if you can please grab a snapshot of its decay curve, so we can attempt to model it :)
Very soon.
I don’t have enough patch cables orherwise
you’d be hearing it. 😁
That’s why I got it. ;)
Quick update…
I was being a it slow there…
I’ve got enough patch cables for now, I was thinking to keep the patching that
I had done on the Crave in case I were to forget it but….it seems I’m memorised it….
Re-wiring now….😇
@lala
I can now hear precisely what you’ve been raving about all this time.
I’m feeding the low pass gate with the Env from the Crave and it’s really cool.
I can also hear now why it’s good on softening percussive sounds.
The Attack becomes quite soft but in a musical way.
It’s very subtle but when you hear the difference? it’s huge.
For those interested in such things…
😁
vactrols certainly add a special flavor :)
there certainly is room in any mix for the "softer attacks" I guess ...
I want this polyphon to play ambient pads with 🤤 @giku
LPG gates are great, especially the passive ones, no extra power suck and really versatile…
Got a few vactrols here, do you have circuit diagrams of good LPGs?
I don’t actually, I guess they’re pretty simple though, probably just protection for the LEDs ? I’ll have a look about and maybe at the back on one of mine…

This thread looks good…

Multicolour LED for additional ‘flavour’ :)
its a light getting brighter ... controlling a 6db lowpass filter & vca at the same time
See Doepfer A-101-2
@rs2000
Here are a couple of links, one is for a low pass filter schematic and the other is for a low pass gate,
both are passive and are really easy to build.
one is the filter, the other is the vca
together they build the lowpassgate ...
Low pass filter I made last week under construction, two stage/12dB/octave new old stock paper capacitors, works a treat taming my harsh oscillators…
Agreed and what's also really cool is that one could either make them small like this,
or 3D print/laser cut a panel and mount them in Eurorack format. :)
Nice one.
Anarchy 😂
Well,.. that’s a way to go. 😂
@lala
In regards to the 3d printing/laser cutting?
I have some interesting news in that regards…watch this space ;)
